It works by adding an adjustable 15 dB or 30 dB gain boost to the signal even before it enters the preamp. This helps that you shouldn't need to crank up the gain on the preamp when using low-output mics like dynamics and ribbons.

It also lets you adjust the impedance according to the mic or make it higher or lower to adjust the sound.
